Searching
Quickly searching the Library for specific files is at the core of Library Monkey and Library Monkey Pro functionality.
The following section describes the functionality available for searching.
1. Choose libraries to search
- Specify which Libraries, Sets, and Smart Sets are to be searched by checking the checkboxes in the Master List.
2. Select searchable metadata
- Specify which Database fields are to be examined in the Main Window section in Preferences. For more information on how to do this, see the Preferences section of this document.
3. Enter Search Text
- Specify the search criteria in the search box.
- Quickly recall previous search text by clicking the magnifying glass and selecting the text from the list.
- Use “+” (plus), “,” (comma), “&” (ampersand), and “ “ (space) to specify text items that must be found to include that asset.
- Use “-” (minus) to specify text items that if found would exclude that asset.
- Use “” (quotes) to separate text items according to the above delimiters
Examples:

- music: find all assets that contain the text music.
- music+slow: find all assets that contain both the text music and the text slow.
- music-slow: find all assets that contain the text music but do not contain the text slow.
- music+”hip-hop”-drum beat: find all assets that contain the text music and the text “hip-hop”, but do not contain the text drum, and also do not contain the text slow.
4. Perform the Search
- Click the New Search button to perform the search and show the results in the Asset List. The search will also be listed under the Recent Searches section in the Master List.
5. Search in the List View
At any time, you may search the assets listed in the Asset List. Simply enter search text in the search box and click Refine Search. Only those assets meeting the search criteria will now be displayed in the Asset List.
6. Recent Searches
Any time a search is performed, the search text and resulting assets will be listed in the Recent Searches section in the Master List.
- Quickly recall the results of a search by selecting it in the Master List.
- Delete a Recent Search by clicking the (x) icon next to it in the Master List.
TIP: For common searches, create a Smart Set.
